Sharing a document
Copy a link to a canvas document and who can open it when it lives in more than one space.
Every canvas document has a link you can hand to a teammate so they land straight on the page.
Copy a share link
Open the ⋯ menu in the meta bar above the title and pick Copy share link. The link is copied to your clipboard — paste it into a message, a comment, a task, or anywhere else.
You can also grab the link without opening the document: right-click its tab in the space's tab bar and choose Copy share link.
Who can open the link
A share link is not an invitation. It doesn't add anyone to a space or grant new access — the person you send it to still needs to already have access to the document to open it. If they don't, the link shows a not-found page.
When a document lives in more than one space
A document can be shared into several spaces at once (and into groups or DMs). When that's the case, the link you copy still works for the recipient as long as they're a member of any one of those spaces — it does not have to be the space you copied the link from.
For example, say a document is shared into both #engineering and #design:
- You're in #engineering and copy the link there.
- You send it to a teammate who's only in #design.
- They open the link and land on the document — because they can reach it through #design, even though you shared the link from #engineering.
The link figures out the right space for whoever opens it. If a recipient isn't in any of the spaces the document is shared into, they'll see a not-found page — share the document into a space they belong to first.
