Using custom emoji
Add your workspace's custom emoji to messages and reactions by name.
Your workspace can have its own custom emoji — images you use by name, like
:partyparrot:. They work alongside the built-in emoji everywhere.
In a message
Type a colon and start the name (:part…). A list pops up showing your
workspace's custom emoji first, then the built-in ones. Pick one to drop it into
your message. Built-in emoji insert as the normal character; custom emoji show
as a small inline image.
As a reaction
Open the emoji picker on a message and choose from the Custom section at the top, or search by name. Your reaction shows the image. If two workspaces share a space and both have an emoji with the same name, each person's reaction shows their workspace's image.
Good to know
- A message that's only emoji renders them larger.
- Animated emoji play automatically. If you've turned on reduced motion in your system settings, they show a still frame instead.
- Custom emoji are searchable by name, so you can find messages that used
:shipit:. - If an emoji was removed, older messages still show its picture — your history doesn't break.
To add or manage your workspace's emoji, see Settings → Emoji (Custom emoji).
