Reactions
How to react to messages with emoji, see who reacted, and remove a reaction.
Reactions let you respond to a message with an emoji — a quick way to acknowledge, vote, or add a little color without sending a full reply.
Adding a reaction
Hover any message and click the emoji button in the toolbar to open the picker, then choose an emoji. On a phone or tablet there's nothing to hover, so tap a message to reveal its toolbar — only one message's toolbar shows at a time, and tapping the message again hides it. The picker opens in a popup, so it never pushes the conversation around. The emoji appears as a small pill under the message with a count next to it.
If someone has already reacted with that emoji, you don't need the picker — just click the existing pill to add yourself. The count goes up by one.
Seeing who reacted
Each pill shows how many people reacted with that emoji. A pill you've reacted to is highlighted so you can tell at a glance which ones include you. Hover a pill to see the names of everyone who reacted with that emoji — if you're one of them, you show up first as "You".
Removing a reaction
Click a pill you've already reacted to and your reaction is removed — the count drops by one. When you remove the last reaction of that emoji, the pill disappears entirely.
Live updates
Reactions are live for everyone in the conversation. When a teammate adds or removes a reaction, you see the pill and its count change in real time — no refresh needed. The same is true the other way around: your reactions show up for everyone else right away. This works everywhere messages appear, including threads and direct messages.
