Removing messages
Take a message back — remove it from one space or from every space you shared it to.
Posted something in the wrong place, or want to take a message back? You can remove your own messages from the same ⋯ menu you use to edit them.
Remove a message
- Hover over your message (or tap it on mobile) and open the ⋯ menu.
- Choose Remove.
- Confirm in the dialog that appears.
The message disappears from the feed right away — and from the thread panel if you removed it there.
Messages shared to more than one space
A message can live in several spaces at once (for example, when you share it to another channel). When you remove a message that's in more than one space, you get a choice:
- Remove from this space — takes the message out of the space you're looking at, but leaves it in the others.
- Remove from all spaces — takes it back everywhere it was shared.
If the message is only in one space, removing it simply takes it back — there's nothing to choose.
What you can and can't remove
- Your own messages only. You can't remove someone else's message. (To take a message out of a channel it was shared into, you can also use Share to space and un-check that channel.)
- Removing is permanent. There's no undo, so double-check before you confirm.
- Works the same in channels, group conversations, thread replies, and direct messages. In a direct message a message only lives in one place, so Remove simply takes it back.
