Changing your handle
How to change your @handle, and what happens to your old one.
Your handle is the @name people use to mention you and the short name in
your profile link. You can change it any time from Settings → Preferences.
Change your handle
- Open Settings → Preferences.
- In the Handle section, type the handle you want. You'll see whether it's available as you type.
- Click Change and confirm.
Handles use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens (for example
jordan-lee), and each one can belong to only one person in your workspace.
What happens to your old handle
When you change your handle, your old handle is reserved for you for one year. During that year:
- No one else can take it.
- Links and mentions that used your old handle still lead to you.
- You can switch back to it whenever you like.
After a year, the old handle is released and becomes available again — so older links that used it may stop working from that point on.
Good to know
- Your past messages and mentions don't change. Everywhere you've been @mentioned updates to show your new name automatically.
- You can change your handle once every 30 days. If you've changed it recently, you'll be asked to wait before changing it again.
- If a handle shows as unavailable, someone else is using it (or has it reserved). Pick another.
- You can switch back to a handle you reserved yourself. A handle you previously used (and still have reserved) shows as available to you.
